La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club and Destiny Hands International Partner to Support Foster Youth in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — March 3, 2023 — What began on a rainy Saturday morning with volunteers gathering around a shared mission quickly transformed into a meaningful act of community support for foster youth in San Diego.

On Saturday, February 25, 2023, volunteers assembled at the home of Rotarian and Destiny Hands International Board Member Elly Dotseth in San Diego, California, where they worked together to fill backpacks with assorted school and personal supplies intended to encourage and support young people transitioning through foster care.

Just one week later, on Friday, March 3, 2023, that preparation came to life when four members of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club joined Destiny Hands International’s founder Benjamin Kettor and board member Elly Dotseth to deliver 50 colorful backpacks to the Just in Time for Foster Youth program in San Diego.

The initiative was made possible through the generous support of the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation, whose contribution helped provide practical resources and encouragement to youth served by the organization.

During the visit, representatives from Destiny Hands International and Rotary were welcomed by the leadership and staff of Just in Time for Foster Youth, who provided a tour of their facility and engaged in meaningful discussions about opportunities to support young adults transitioning out of foster care.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to empowering communities through partnership, service, and compassion.

“We are grateful for the generosity and partnership that made this project possible,” said Kettor, President & CEO of Destiny Hands International. “When organizations and community leaders come together with a common purpose, lives can be impacted in meaningful ways,” he added.

As Destiny Hands International continues its mission of serving vulnerable communities through education, empowerment, and humanitarian initiatives, leaders say this partnership is only the beginning.
